Blog - Dressing Up Dogs

most dogs show signs of stress

Dressing a dog for bad weather with a warm waterproof coat, a neoprene vest for protection, or when coming back home with a drying fleece is one thing, but dressing them up and parading them about is another.

Most dogs love being petted and fussed over by their family and will generally tolerate more exuberant attention from us, but not from people they don't know.

Not only do most dogs show signs of stress when we dress them up, but we make them an object of attention from strangers and other dogs which I experienced first-hand last year at an obedience 'Xmas party'.

One of the small dogs came dressed up in a Xmas sweater - Emrys was absolutely obsessed with the bobbly knitted Rudolph image, and given half the chance, would have tried taking hold of it and no doubt giving a shake as he would a toy...

Give your dog a break and let him be 'just a dog'... and rather than dress him up, take him out for a decent walk and throw a toy for him instead...
